July 3, 1966 - Mohawk Airlines adds prop jet service

On this day in 1966, Mohawk Airlines added prop-jet service.
They were a precursor to the jets we see today.
Because of the new aircraft, the Albany County board of supervisors approved a 1 million dollar contract adding 1-thousand feet to the north-south runway.
Watervliet-Shaker road had to be shortened and loop around the longer runway-the loop that still exists today.
