SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NOW IN EFFECT

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the entire local area until 7pm tonight. Thunderstorms that do develop this afternoon will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail. Locally heavy downpours of rain will accompany some of the storms, along with dangerous cloud to ground lightning. If a warning is issued for your particular location, seek shelter indoors until the storm passes.

September 2, 1966: Beginning of the Northway

ALBANY - It was on September 2, 1966 that Gov. Rockefeller marked the completion of the Adirondack Northway -- at the time.

The original Northway was completed when a 17-mile stretch from Warrensburg to Pottersville was dedicated.

Gov. Rockefeller took to a state chopper for the ribbon cutting.September 2, 1966: Beginning of the Northway
