September 6, 1970 - Sammy Davis, Jr arrives for concert

Updated: Friday, September 6 2013, 06:20 AM EDT
On this day back in 1970, Sammy Davis, Jr. arrived at Albany Airport in his own chartered jet.

More than 40 people were on board -- including his orchestra and backup singers.

He was heading to SPAC for a 3:30 concert, which sold out.

Davis had just recovered from pneumonia -- and we reported in 1970 that he "looked tired."

Davis' appearance capped what had been SPAC's most successful season to that point.September 6, 1970 - Sammy Davis, Jr arrives for concert
