Superintendent: Albany High School will be closed Friday while staff investigate fights
UPDATE: District officials have announced that Albany High School and Tony Clement Center for Education will be closed Friday, to allow staff to thoroughly investigate the incidents that led to Thursday's early dismissal.
"We will not let the inappropriate actions of a small number of our students impact the learning environment for the rest of our students and our staff," said City School District of Albany Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams. "This behavior will not be tolerated and we will deal with it swiftly and appropriately. It is absolutely unacceptable."
ALBANY, NY (WRGB) Albany Police say 10 were arrested after several fights broke out at Albany High School.
Police say at around 2:20 PM Thursday afternoon, as the students were leaving Albany High School for a fire alarm, several fights broke out.
In total, 6 juveniles and 4 adults were taken into custody, say police.
Police have not revealed what prompted the fights, however they say there will be a increased presence in school on Friday.
One person was taken to the hospital, complaining of nose pain.
