The Bottom Line: IRS phone scam follow-up

NISKAYUNA -- A follow-up to a Bottom Line Alert on a scam CBS 6 has been tracking for months: The phone scam claiming to be the IRS, telling victims they need to pay up immediately - or else risk being arrested the same day.
That scam appears to be ramping up in the Capital Region, as Dori Marlin has heard from many viewers in the last week saying they've received such a call.
Dori even spoke with one Amsterdam man who says he lost $2,000 to the scam because he was trying to help his mother, who received one of the calls.
The Bottom Line once again?
The IRS notifies people of unpaid taxes by mail, and not by phone - so if you get one of these calls, do not send any money.
