Albany site no longer being considered to house immigrant children

Updated: Tuesday, July 15 2014, 03:48 PM EDT
ALBANY -- Federal officials confirm that a former convent in Albany is no longer being considered to house immigrant children who arrive in the country unaccompanied.

The Kenwood Academy was being considered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a possible detention site, but was determined not to be a viable option.

Currently, shelters
along the southern U.S. border are overwhelmed by children, mostly from
Central America. HHS is
studying several sites to identify those that can handle future needs, but Representative Tonko's office says no other facilities are being considered in the Capital Region at this time.Albany site no longer being considered to house immigrant children
