Water testing to continue in North Bennington

NORTH BENNINGTON - Water testing crews are busy fielding new requests and will return to North Bennington next week.

Workers with Vermont's Department of Environmental Conservation have tested around 140 wells around the old Chemfab plant, believed to be the source of PFOA contamination. PFOA is a hazardous substance linked to cancer, used in the production of plastics products.

"Currently, we're anticipating another 40 more wells we need to sample next week. But that could change, depending on how many additional inquiries we get," explained DEC's John Schmeltzer.

The testing takes time. After the samples are collected, they're shipped to a lab in Wisconsin. Results will likely be back within two to three weeks.
