Albany Police investigating Delaware Street homicide
ALBANY, NY (WRGB)--Albany Police said Monday they are still looking for the person who shot and killed a man on Father’s Day. On Monday, police said the victim was Terrance Roberts, 46, from Albany. He was shot on Delaware Street near Clinton Street.
"He was always friendly," said Clara Phillips, who lived in the same neighborhood as Roberts. "He was a good guy, a very good guy."
A spokesperson for Saint Peter's Health Partners said that Roberts was currently an environmental services aide at Memorial Hospital. Grief counselors were available Monday for employees.
Phillips said that Roberts was at a cook out Sunday to celebrate Father's Day. She spoke with him and his wife before she ran to the store. When she came home, she said police tape was surrounding the area.
"I know when I left he was alive when I came back he was dead," said Phillips. "It just broke my heart to hear that the got killed."
"Right now we are still trying to determine exactly what happened but we do know there was some sort of altercation that was physical and then turned deadly," said Albany Police Public Information Officer Steve Smith.
Smith said investigators are trying to speak with anyone who may have seen something.
Phillips said that she and her pastor have prayed at the sites where people in Albany have been killed. They will now pray for Roberts as well. She said they were already praying for his teenage son. She said he was stabbed and paralyzed a few years ago by someone who wanted his bike. He later died from those injuries.
"The only thing we have to do is pray for them. That's the only thing I can do," said Phillips.
