Free Hands-Only CPR training returns to Empire State Plaza
ALBANY, NY (WRGB)---A life-saving opportunity in Albany Wednesday, where the "Hands-Only CPR mobile tour" made a stop.
It was an interactive opportunity for members of the public to learn the two steps of hands-only CPR so they know how to respond if someone goes into cardiac arrest.
One of the speakers at Wednesday's event is all too familiar with that danger.
He was hit by a pitch playing little league several years ago, and he went into cardiac arrest.
"Thankfully, my coaches were there and they noticed that something was wrong and they knew how to do CPR. I'm alive today because they knew how to do CPR and how to use an AED," said Joe Mendrick.
Doctors say the more people who are trained in CPR and AED use, the higher survival rates will be for people who go into cardiac arrest outside of a hospital.
