League scrambling to clean up Hoosick Falls ballfields for tournament
HOOSICK FALLS -- Today, the fields are "soupy." This coming weekend, there's supposed to be a softball tournament there.
That's the word from Ted Senecal Jr., president of the Town of Hoosick Youth Baseball & Softball. Following flooding Saturday, the fields were deep under water -- at its deepest, he said, it covered the dugouts.
While the water has been receding, Senecal said, the fields have been damaged. Equipment belonging to the league has also been damaged, and some of it lost in the flood.
The scheduled tournament is a major fundraiser for the league, Senecal said, enabling them to keep registration costs lower for players. With an eye to holding the event despite the storm, cleanup begins promptly at 8 a.m. Monday.
Senecal said any help people can offer with cleanup will be appreciated, even if it's just for an hour. A gofundme page has also been set up to help with the repairs and replacement efforts.
