Local girl is youngest in rowing camp on the Hudson
CAPITAL REGION -- Thursday, a 3 1/2-year-old girl did what many adults never have: she went rowing along lock 3 of the Hudson River.
After a few days of instruction with Kindersculls -- a traveling rowing camp that teaches the very youngest athletes -- Emmy Murphy took to the water.
Coach Maddie Hopkins says starting young gives athletes a leg up, and capitalizes on their courage.
At 3 1/2, Emmy is the youngest student the camp has taken through the lock.
Emmy's dad, Robert, says his kids' school suggested she try the camp, and that he's glad to see his children empowered.
