Local police departments investigating knife point robberies
ROTTERDAM, NY (WRGB)--A few minutes after midnight Friday, Rotterdam police say a man held up the Cumberland Farms on Duanesburg Rd.
"A male entered the store, he approached the clerk from behind the counter and demanded the clerk open the cash register, and he fled with the cash,": said Rotterdam Lt. Michael Brown.
The suspect was captured on store surveillance video.
Lt. Michael brown says the clerk told investigators the suspect was armed with a knife.
Bethlehem police say a man armed with a knife also robbed the Stewart's on Rt. 9W in Selkirk early Sunday morning.
"Individual described as a white male between 5' 8" and 6' , wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black mask, black pants entered the Stewart's store just as it opened, with a knife demanded money and fled on foot," said Comm. Adam Hornick of Bethlehem PD.
Police say they are now communicating as each department investigates.
"We are seeing some things that are similar and some things that are not, being cloaked in disguise and carrying a knife is similar," said Hornick.
"The physical description matches, but there are some differences, the way it was carried out, but it is certainly something we'll continue to follow up on," said Brown.
