Man accused of rape, befriended victim on Facebook
UPDATE: A lieutenant with the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office says they've heard from people looking to provide information in the case of a Malta man charged with raping a 16-year-old girl.
The sheriff says the alleged victim told investigators she met 29-year-old Marshall Gaudet online.
He says Gaudet blackmailed the girl into meeting him, then allegedly raped her at his home.
Authorities say they found gaudet was talking online with more than 20 young women.
The lieutentant tells us they haven't connected with any other potential victims.
MALTA - Police have arrested a Malta man, accused of using social media to befriend, then forcibly rape a teenage girl.
Investigators say 29 year old Marshall Gaudet was arrested on July 21, charged with two counts of rape, possessing a sexual performance, and coercion.
Gaudet is accused of befriending a 16 year old girl on Facebook, then convinced her to send explicit photos of herself to him, according to investigators.
Investigators say Gaudet then threatened to release those photos on the internet unless she agreed to meet him.
Gaudet, according to police, then met up with the victim, brought her back to his home and forcibly raped her. Police say he also threatened to release the images if she called police.
Investigators say, at the time of his arrest, was in possession of child pornography and appeared to be in contact with other young girls on his computer.

Gaudet was arraigned and held in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
