TROY, NY (WRGB)---Republican Asm. Steve McLaughlin and Chris Meyer and squaring off Tuesday for the County Executive nomination.
This race has certainly been fiery between McLaughlin and Meyer - and still appears to be a close call.
After four terms as County Executive, Kathy Jimino announced this Spring she would not be running again - and her longtime deputy and the state Assemblyman both pounced.
Steve McLaughlin has been representing the 107th district for almost seven years.
Chris Meyer, who has the Republican Party backing and Jimino's endorsement, has served under her since 2010.
Major issues the candidates have focused on include PFOA contamination in Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh, the heroin epidemic, and gun control, with McLaughlin being endorsed by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.
The winner tonight will challenge Democrat Andrea Smyth in November.
