Boil-water order in Rotterdam Junction for water main break
The Schenectady County Department of Environmental Health has issued a boil-water order for all of Rotterdam Junction as a precaution, in response to accidental damage to a fire hydrant and the resulting loss of water.
All water customers in Rotterdam Junction are to boil allwater fo drinking and culinary purposes, until further notice.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills most bacteria and other organisms in the water.
The damage is being repaired. Residents will be informed via the media with additional information, or when tests confirm there are no harmful bacteria in the system.
The New York State Department of Transportation says it has all lanes of Route 5S closed between Bridge Rd and Mohawk Dr in the Town of Rotterdam due to a water main break.
The DOT says the lanes were closed at 8:40 am.
