Schenectady school district announces impact of funding increase
SCHENECTADY, NY (WRGB)--Monday, leaders in Schenectady broke down how a boost in funding is going to help students in the schools there.
Superintendent Larry Spring says they're hiring more than five dozen new staff members and adding services like academic intervention and remediation.
Some of the staff are clinicians who will focus on mental health.
He says the $7 million in increased aid will also put Schenectady schools in a good place financially.
"This is the best budget honestly I think that we've ever had in Schenectady we are adding a significant number of services to provide to kids we are reducing the tax levy by over a million dollars," said Spring.
If approved, the tax levy will drop about 2%.
