School supply drive held for immigrants and refugees
WATERVLIET, NY (WRGB)--Refugee and immigrant students in the area have their choice of new school supplies after residents at a local senior living community collected them for a drive.
People living at Shaker Pointe came together to collect new pens, pencils, binders, paper, and other school essentials for the drive.
It's one of three different fundraising drives they do each year.
They tell us this one is a way for them to learn about and help all the people in their community.
"We wanted to educate ourselves about refugees, we wanted to advocate for refugees and we wanted to do service directly for the refugees and this is part of that service," said resident Polly Ginsberg.
All of the supplies were taken to the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Albany.
Kids will be able to take the supply list they get from their teachers, and get the supplies they need.
