Sheriff: Knox man arrested on weapons charges
KNOX, NY (WRGB) The Albany County Sheriff's Office says a Knox man was arrested on weapons charges.
Investigators say they received a call for a person who was emotionally disturbed. Investigators say Edward Reis sent a text to a female stating “he wanted to go to Arizona and euthanize himself”
When deputies arrived at his home, they noticed firearms inside the residence.
Investigators say a search warrant was obtained and a search revealed a room in the house which stored numerous firearms, explosives, grenades, grenade launcher, and materials commonly used to make explosive devices.
Deputies say they also found a forged New York State Pistol Permit.
Reis was soon located at a motel on Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. Investigators say after a brief conversation with a crisis negotiator, Reis turned himself in to police.
Police say an AR15 was located in the room.
Reis was charged with Criminal Possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, Criminal possession of a firearm, five counts of Criminal possession of a weapon, Unlawfully possessing or selling noxious material, and Possession of fireworks.
Members of the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit assisted with the removal of the explosives from his home.
