State Police make arrest in skimming device ring investigation
AMSTERDAM, NY (WRGB) State Police have arrested an man from Florida, accused of being a part of a skimming device ring in the City of Amsterdam.
Police say the six month joint investigation from three other agencies began after the owner of a gas station found 6 skimming devices connected to gas pumps.
In October of 2017, officials from the USPS inspection service opened an investigation after an individual was reported to have purchased multiple money orders in Broome County.
A search warrant in connection to that investigation resulted in police recovering 42 counterfeit debit cards, according to State Police.
Those cards, according to State Police, are connected to the skimmers recovered from the gas pumps in Amsterdam.
State Police in Fonda say two were arrested back December 2017 for skimming devices, both suspects were also from the state of Florida; Yudiel Ceballos, 31, and Yuny Rodriguez, 29
Yadiel Baez-Arias, 30, of Hialeah, Florida, was charged with Grand larceny in the fourth degree and Scheme to defraud in the first degree. He was transported from Broome County Jail and remanded to the Montgomery County Jail on $150,000.
