Trial begins for former inspector charged with deadly Schenectady Fire
SCHENECTADY (WRGB) - Jury selection started Monday in the trial of a former Schenectady building inspector charged with the deadly fire on Jay Street in 2015.
Kenneth Tyree faces multiple charges including manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Prosecutors say Tyree claimed he inspected the apartment building's fire alarm system the day before the fire. But it was later revealed the system had been down for three months. Four people died in the fire.
Last month, former building manager Jason Sacks pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide. As part of the plea agreement, Sacks agreed to testify against Tyree.
No jurors were selected in court on Monday.
