Trump tweets suggestive remarks about female NY Senator.
"President Trump should resign his position," said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in an interview.
Those strong words may have prompted the president to call her a "lightweight" a "total flunky" and that she "would do anything" for campaign donations in a tweet sent out this morning. Trump donated close to 5,000 dollars to her campaign in 2010.
The democrat from Albany, called the tweet a "sexist smear."
“He's not going to silence me, and he's not going to be able to silence the millions of men and women that marched during the women's march," Gillibrand said.
The senator echoed those remarks in a tweet of her own, writing “You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office.”
Trump was asked to respond at a meeting with military leaders today.
"Mr. President what did you mean when you said Kirsten Gillibrand would do anything for a campaign contribution?” asked a reporter. "Thank you everybody," Trump said as he walked out without answering the question.
Gillibrand called for the president’s resignation in defense of the more than a dozen women who have accused the president of sexual misconduct. Trump has denied all of the allegations, and has threatened to sue his accusers.
Gillibrand’s fellow democrats came to her defense today.
"It represents the conduct of a person who is ill-equipped to be the president of the united states," said Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier of California.
Gillibrand and at least four other democratic senators have called for an investigation into the allegations.
