USPS Albany Processing & Distribution Center reopens after hazmat incident
March 11, 2018 —
UPDATE: A USPS spokesperson says the distribution center has been cleaned in accordance with their protocols, and is open as of Sunday night. The health and safety of employees remains a priority.
The USPS Albany Processing and Distribution Center on Old Karner Road in Colonie will remain closed Sunday following a hazmat situation.
The Albany County Fire Coordinator says three employees developed rash-like symptoms and were taken to the hospital and released. Multiple crews and agencies worked to secure the scene. They searched for six hours to determine what substance may have caused the rash. However, they say that is still undetermined.
Officials say they do not believe there is any health issue. They are turning the situation over to the USPS.
An industrial cleaning company is expected to clean the facility.
