Parents charged with child abuse after Narcan used on 11-month-old

Brianna and Devin Devereaux were charged with third degree child abuse.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)-- The parents of an 11-month-old who had drugs in her system have been charged.

Brianna Devereaux, 23, was arraigned Monday via video on a third degree child abuse charge. Her bond has been set at $15,000.

Devin Devereaux, 27, was arraigned Monday via video on charges of third degree child abuse and habitual offender. His bond has been set at $75,000.

The incident involving Brianna and Devin's 11-month-old child happened back in June.

According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, initial information indicated the 11-month-old girl may have swallowed an unknown pill.

Deputies say EMS arrived on scene and administered Narcan to the little girl. The child was then taken to Munson Medical Center where she was treated before being airlifted to DeVos Children's Hospital. The little girl has since been released from the hospital and is okay.

Investigation revealed that the child at some point ingested cocaine and an opiate. After an investigation by Grand Traverse County Sheriff's detectives and Child Protective Services, a report was sent to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor's Office. Charges of third degree child abuse were then authorized against the parents, Devin and Brianna Devereaux.

With assistance from the Michigan State Police, Devin and Brianna were both arrested at a house in Gladwin Saturday.

Child Protective Services took the 11-month-old as well as another child who was inside the house at the time to a relative's home in Ogemaw County.
