Some costs from failed fitness center being covered
The project cost you millions -- but some tax money is being recouped.
Three million tax dollars went into the building of the Maranatha Fitness Center -- which shut down just months after opening, and has sat empty for years.
But now Schoharie County is getting some of the back property taxes it's owed.
The county had moved to seize the building, but the new owner -- the New York Business Development Corporation, has agreed to pay those taxes.
The corporation has handed over an initial payment of $100,000, and some monthly payments of more than $30,000.
The building's future is still unclear.
