You Paid for It: Legislative Pay Raise
ALBANY -- A bill has been introduced in the New York State Assembly for a pay raise for all new York lawmakers.
Asm. David Weprin introduced bill number A-5933, which calls for the legislative salary to be raised in an amount equal to the rate of inflation since the last time pay was raised -- back in 1999.
According to the calculations of the now-defunct Legislative Pay Raise Commission, that would bring the salary from the current $79,500 to approximately $117,000 -- an increase of $37,000 per year.
If approved, the bill could not go into effect until 2019, because a sitting Legislature cannot vote itself a pay raise.
