NISKAYUNA, NY (WRGB)--UAlbany football kicks off the CAA portion of its schedule this weekend at Casey Stadium.

The Great Danes' first conference opponent, Villanova, has one of the top offenses in the FCS.

Luckily, UAlbany boasts one of the best defenses.

UAlbany isn't ranked yet, but its defense is allowing fewer than 250-yards per game, eighth best in all of Division IAA.

On the other side, Villanova's offense averages 460 yards per game, good enough for seventh in the nation.

Much of the responsibility in stopping the dynamic wildcats offense falls on the shoulders of Nate Hatalsky.

The Mechanicville native has 36 total tackles this season to lead the CAA.

Gardner Royce sat down with the Defensive Player of the Week to talk about his journey to starting middle linebacker.
