Beyond the Games: Sophie Phillips
NISKAYUNA , NY (WRGB)--Of all qualified players in the NBA this season, Portland's CJ McCollum led the league in free throw percentage, with a 91.2%
Cambridge 8th grader Sophie Phillips has even better numbers.
At the Elks Hoop Shoot national finals last month in Chicago, Sophie took home the top prize, by hitting 29 of 30 foul shots.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is open to boys and girls across the U.S., ages 8 to 13.
They are separated into three different age groups, then by gender, for a total of six national championships.
In addition to winning her age group, Sophie also earned the Getty Powell award, given to the top overall boy and girl scorer.
For that, she will be on hand in September, for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction, where she will receive her own spot in Springfield.
