Beyond the Games: The Dance Department
NISKAYUNA, NY (WRGB)--Former major league pitcher Brian Sweeney is now working as a pitching coach in the Phillies organization, instructing the Lakewood Blue Claws of the South Atlantic League.
But before his stints with the Mariners and the Padres, before the time spent overseas in Japan, Sweeney played his college ball at Mercy.
It was with the Mavericks in the mid-90's that he came to Albany to play St. Rose.
And it's here, on that trip that he met the woman he would eventually marry, Connie Rinaldi of Troy, out on the dance floor.
The Sweeney's now make their home in Clifton Park, where Connie has a dance floor of her own.
Just this week, she hosted the grand reopening of "The Dance Department" in Plaza 8.
A gymnast by trade, Connie's never considered herself a dancer, but became interested when their youngest daughter started at the studio.
When the opportunity to become an owner came about, the former stay-at-home mom jumped at the chance.
But she's not going at it alone.
The previous owner, Lauren Kent, will still be involved, but decided to take a back seat as she deals with health issues.
Kent, a breast cancer survivor, goes by the mantra "whatever life throws at you, just show up and dance." this week -- the two new dance partners sat down with Brittany Devane.
