Albany H.S. hires longtime UAlbany football coach Mike Simpson
Albany, NY - It's not every day a high school football program holds a press conference to introduce an assistant coach. But, when he the resume Mike Simpson has, you make certain accommodations.
On Friday afternoon, Albany High School head coach Joey DiPiazza introduced his new lieutenant, who spent nearly three decades as an assistant coach at UAlbany under the Great Danes legendary head coach Bob Ford.
"There's a lot of things I respect about Coach Ford," said Simpson. "But one of the things I respect the most is he had a great feel of dealing with the freshmen athlete, which was right out of high school guys. He really understood what their need are, and I learned a lot as far as the expectations you got to have when you're dealing with a younger person."
Albany High School will open 2016 training camp in the coming weeks.
