Niskayuna hoops star chooses Maryland for college career
NISKAYUNA , NY (WRGB)--Widely considered one of the Top-100 high school girls' basketball players in the nation, Niskayuna star Olivia Owens had her pick of the top college programs in the country.
The 6' 4" rising senior averaged a double-double last season with the Silver Warriors, recording more than 20 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Her play caught the eye of UConn head coach Geno Auriemma, who came to the Capital Region to personally recruit Owens on the day before her 16th birthday.
Olivia received her first offer during freshman year, and by the time of today's announcement, she had 28 offers in hand.
In front of friends, family, coaches and teammates in her high school auditorium this morning, Owens finally revealed her commitment in dramatic fashion.

Owens is headed to college park next Fall, to join the three-time defending big-10 champion Maryland Terrapins.
The Silver Warriors star will become the third female from Niskayuna to graduate with a full athletic scholarship, joining elite company in Kate Fagan and Kayla Treanor.
