UAlbany football loses star running back for the season
ALBANY, NY (WRGB)---The UAlbany football team will be without its star running back for the remainder of the season.
Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks has been ruled out for the rest of 2017 as he continues to recover from a left knee injury.
The junior is applying for a medical redshirt with the hopes of having two years of eligibility when he returns.
The Newark, NJ native burst on to the scene last season, rushing for more than 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns, before tearing his ACL in the finale against Stony Brook.
Ibitokun-Hanks spent the offseason working his way back from surgery, and made his return to the playing field in mid-September against Monmouth, three games into the Great Danes' schedule.
However, he has been held out ever since, and now the preseason All-American and member of the Walter Payton Award watch list will have to wait until next season to work towards meeting those high expectations.
