Schenectady, NY - Despite growing up in the tough Hamilton Hill neighborhood of Schenectady, and despite having severe dyslexia which greatly hampered his studies, Rashaun Freeman continues to excel.
Seven years after graduating from the University of Massachusetts as the fourth leading scorer in that school's basketball history, Freeman is back in his hometown this summer as a seasoned professional basketball player. And also simply as a seasoned pro.
"With the position that I'm in, it's my job to give back and speak to little kids when I can," said the 2002 Schenectady High School graduate. "That's just my job. I feel as though that's anybody's job if they're a professional."
The 6'9" forward played this past season in Israel. Freeman speaks with Electric City school children just as often as the opportunities arise.
