TRAFFIC ALERT: Construction on I-90 Schodack bridges starts Monday

SCHODACK -- A $4.8 million project to replace the two bridges carrying Interstate 90 over the Moordener Kill in Schodack will begin Monday, April 1.

Traffic in both directions on I-90 will be reduced by one lane between Exit 11 and 12 beginning Monday morning as the contractor builds crossover lanes in the median of I-90.

When completed by early May, these crossover lanes will shift traffic heading east onto the westbound bridge. The westbound bridge will then carry two lanes of traffic heading east and one lane of traffic heading west.

Motorists are encouraged to use Route 9 as an alternate route. Route 9 runs nearly parallel to I-90 between Exits 11 and 12.

NYSDOT will replace the eastbound bridge this year, with work expected to be completed by mid-November. The westbound bridge will be replaced next year. The work is needed because of aging and deterioration of the bridge’s support beams.
