Work on Twin Bridges to resume next week

COLONIE (AP) -- The second phase of a bridge deck replacement project is set to start on an Albany-area span carrying Interstate 87 over the Mohawk River, or the Twin Bridges.

The state Department of Transportation said Tuesday that weekend work to replace the deck of the southbound lanes on the Thaddeus Kosciuszko Bridge will begin the night of April 5. The Twin Bridges carrythe Adirondack Northway over the Mohawk River between Albany and Saratoga counties.

The work will require lane reductions during the weekends. The DOT says northbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane while two southbound lanes will be shifted onto the northbound span, which was renovated last fall. The work is scheduled to wrap before rush hour on Monday mornings and be completed by Memorial Day.
