Victory in Saratoga Springs war on drugs
SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The war on drugs in the City of Saratoga Springs had another victory on Friday. There have been several major busts in the last 6 months and police say the drug ring had connections to gangs in Albany and Schenectady.
The bust on Friday netted 6 arrests.
"We have made tremendous progress in putting an end into the narcotics problems in the city," said Lt. John Catone.
Grand Avenue was filled with police officers dressed in camouflage as a state police helicopter soared above with two armored swat vehicles outside 149 Grand Avenue.
"One of the reasons we went to the lengths that we did with the amount of personnel and the type of personnel because all of our intelligence and surveillance into that house indicated that there were some violent fellon that were coming and going," said Catone.
The Friday raid was the last piece of a big puzzle.
"This raid at 149 Grand Ave on Friday was the culmination of or the finish of this particular investigation. Throughout it we have arrested 26 people," said Catone.
Public Safety Commissioner Chris Mathiesen said he wasn't privy to the raid until right before it happened.
"In our office we were informed of it shortly before it happened," said Mathiesen.
Catone says the community has played a major part in cleaning up the city. Now these neighborhoods can continue to clean up process.
