Guilty verdict in Schenectady student hit-run death

SCHENECTADY(AP) -- An upstate New York man has been convicted of homicide, drugged driving and other crimes for the hit-and-run death of a 19-year-old Schenectady County Community College student in 2011.
A Schenectady County jury found 35-year-old Anthony Gallo of Rotterdam guilty Thursday of multiple counts, including aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of drugs.
Witnesses said he'd smoked crack cocaine and was driving recklessly when his pickup truck hit Cassandra Boone as she crossed a street in downtown Schenectady in November 2011. She later died at an Albany hospital.
Boone was a freshman at Schenectady County Community College.
The homicide charge carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
