NY woman impaled on fence in fall from window

GLOVERSVILLE (AP) -- Police say a woman is expected to recover after she fell from a second-story window and was impaled on a wooden fence in upstate New York.

Gloversville Police Capt. John Sira says the 23-year-old woman was trying to avoid a confrontation with another person when she fell around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Her name was not released.

Sira tells the Leader-Herald of Gloversville that the woman climbed out the window of an apartment building and fell about 20 feet onto tall wooden stockade fencing, impaling her leg. Police and emergency medical workers climbed ladders to lift her off.

Sira says the injuries aren't life-threatening.
