Lock 7, Lock 8 affected by heavy rain to be fixed

ALBANY -- The water level on the Mohawk River at two local dams will be drawn down this week as the New York Power Authority and the New York State Canal Corporation repair and assess flashboards dislodged during heavy rains.

Officials say the dams weren't damaged and the work isn't expected to impact boating in the navigational channel.

On Monday night, water levels between Lock 7 in Niskayuna and Lock 8 in Scotia will be drawn down about 2 feet from normal summer levels. On Friday, water behind the Crescent Dam in Halfmoon will be drawn down six inches to complete the work at that location.

Water levels are to be restored by Friday night.
