Cuomo visiting more NY colleges for tax-free plan
ALBANY (AP) -- It's another round of visits to New York college campuses for Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he discusses his tax-free zone initiative with local officials.
Cuomo is hitting three more campuses Thursday, including Purchase College in Westchester, Onondaga Community College in Syracuse and Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. The governor visited three other colleges on Monday to talk up his tax-free New York plan.
Renamed Start-Up New York, the plan calls for giving new employers and their employees 10 years of tax-free living if they locate on or near college campuses in New York state. Cuomo says the plan will boost economic
development in host communities by attracting high-tech companies.
College leaders have praised the plan, but some faculty members worry about the merger of education and profit-motivated endeavors.
