Pistons & Props: Aviation show in Schenectady
SCHENECTADY - The second annual Pistons and Props show brought fans to the Schenectady County Airport.
This year, hosted by Richmor Aviation, the RPI Aviation Club and capitalcarshows.com, people were able to see the F5 jet used in the Tom Cruise film Top Gun. People were also given the chance to ride in a helicopter.
The RPI flying club is honoring the Thiers Memorial Fund, an endowment to support the future of aviation in honor of Lawrence H. R. Thiers, RPI Class of 1996, who played an important role in the history of the Rensselaer Aeronautical Federation, now dubbed the RPI Flying Club.
Posthumously honored, a fund was created to provide financial assistance for students to achieve what was his greatest passion, the art of flying. Close to their goal, the RPI Flying Club dreams to one day be independent and self-funded to allow them to reach their full potential to fuel the passion of student pilots.
Richmor Aviation's modern facility will feature not only their state of the art hanger, but showcase many aircraft displays and vendors in a hometown, grassy, fair type, atmosphere including a Best of Show competition by the RPI Flying Club.
