Jury deliberates in child murder trial

Following closing arguments Monday, the jury began deliberating around 2 p.m. Thirty minutes later jurors returned to the courtroom requesting a copy of the elements of each charge in the case - a request the judge could not allow under the law. Later, the jury returned again to hear the judge read those elements. The jury deliberated about two hours before sending out another note around 4:15 p.m. indicating jurors wanted to stop for the day and wanted to once again hear the elements of one of the charges: Murder 2nd degree. Warrington is accused of causing a head injury to 5-year-old Gary Carpenter in November 2012 and then not doing anything to help the boy recover from the injury. Carpenter was the son of Warrington's girlfriend, Jennie Mattison, who is awaiting sentencing for her conviction on a hindering charge. She was accused of lying to police about what happened to her son in order to protect Warrington. Mattison could get a sentence of up to four years.
