Man survives 34K volt shock, 10 foot fall off platform

WRGB Staff

GREENWICH -- A Washington county man is in critical condition after being hit with over 34 thousand volts of electricity.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says 40-year-old John Hughes of Greenwich was shocked when he was walking on a 10-foot high platform that connects tension wires.

Officials say the shock knocked him off the platform onto the cement below.

They say they aren't sure why he was there, but Hughes had cut a hole into a chain link fence to get onto the Mill Road property.

Hughes is now in the Westchester Burn Unit.

Criminal charges are possible since he did not have permission to be on the property.
