NY unemployment rate dips to 7.5 percent in June

ALBANY -- The unemployment rate in New York ticked down last month, dropping to 7.5 percent from 7.6 percent in May.
The state labor department says that's the lowest it's been since February 2009 during the Great Recession.
In New York City, the jobless rate was up slightly to 8.4 percent from 8.3 a month earlier, but a full point below June 2012's 9.4 percent.
The rest of the state saw the rate drop to 6.9 percent from 7.1 percent, well below the 8.2 percent a year earlier.
The U.S. rate was 7.6 percent in June.
The labor department says most of the gains over the past year were in educational and health services, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality and trade, transportation and utilities.
Losses continued in government and manufacturing.
