NY state power use hits high as temperatures soar

ALBANY (AP) -- The New York Independent System Operator reports the state's peak demand for power set a record Friday afternoon, although no power outages were reported.

The peak demand was reported at over 33,950 megawatts just after 3:40 p.m. The record had been 33,939 megawatts set on Aug. 2, 2006.

The ISO had expected peak demand to reach just 33,300 megawatts.
 
The ISO is a nonprofit corporation responsible for the state's bulk electricity grid.
 
Temperatures in the state reached the mid-90s.
