Mayfield water tower being repaired, town under usage restrictions

MAYFIELD - The Town of Mayfield is under an excessive water use restriction after a water tower is drained to repair a leak.

Monday evening crews worked to restore water to to North Main Street and install a shut off valve onto the Water Tower.  North Main Street currently under a boil water advisory, however the rest of the village is under excessive use restrictions.

The tower was drained and the town is running on pumps only. While the tower is being repaired, the fire department has been training to pump water from nearby lakes in the event of an emergency.

On Tuesday a new valve will be installed on one of three wells to optimize water supply during the tower repair.

A tower team is coming in from Kentucky to work on the tower for a scheduled week long repair scheduled.  Mayor Ward also moved up cleaning of the tank, previously scheduled for 2014, as the tank was already drained.

Repairs and cleaning is expected to be completed by Thursday August 7.
