'Build Act' to help redevelop Albany

ALBANY - The City of Albany could be reclaiming some land once unusable for new businesses.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Paul Tonko were in Albany on Monday to announce the "Build Act"

The Legislation would expand the Federal Brownsfields Development Program, thus freeing up funds to clean up various hazardous waste sites and provide additional resources and for sites in need of redevelopment.  The result would make those properties usable for new business.

"The Sheridan Hollow neighborhood of Albany is ripe with opportunity to help our economy grow," Senator Gillibrand said. "This strong, bipartisan bill can unlock new investments to develop brownfield sites into usable spaces that can attract new businesses, support new jobs, and make more New York communities a great place to live, work and raise a family."

Gillibrand's office says that Albany has seven Brownfield sites, including two along the waterfront.
