You Paid for It: MA welfare fraud
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- CBS6 showed you earlier how police in Massachusetts have been targeting recipients suspected of bilking the system by abusing welfare benefits.
A deal signed on Monday allows police to investigate stores for making big bucks off of benefit fraud. Police in Pittsfield are among the departments who have signed on to the agreement.
The scheme ususally involves using cash to purchase welfare benefits from recipients for half their face value. In the last fiscal year, 22 stores in Massachusetts were permanently disqualified from the program because of fraud.
