Troy Man Arrested for a Weapons Charge
TROY -- A Troy man is under arrest after he was found with a stolen gun in his jacket pocket.
At approximately midnight on Sunday, Troy Police Patrols were dispatched to the 400 block of 4th Avenue for a reported assault. Investigation revealed that a woman was assaulted by two males, one brandishing a handgun and striking her on the head.
At approximately 12:25 am after searching the area, a Patrol Officer saw two subjects walking quickly on 124th Street walking towards Sixth Avenue. The officer followed them through the 800 block of Sixth Avenue. After reporting the clothing desription of that man, he was found by Officers in the front yard of 869 Sixth Avenue. Officers could see a fully loaded, hammer back 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the man's jacket pocket. The weapon was safely recovered and secured.
Follow up investigation reveals that the suspect, along with another individual not yet identified, was responsible for an unsuccessful robbery earlier Saturday evening and the gun had been stolen in a burglary earlier in the month.
Kamari Shuaib, age 21 of Troy, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, Assault in the 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Smith has been arraigned and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail with no bail.
