Developing Storm: Snow To Increase in Coverage and Intensity After Midnight

A major Nor'easter now developing off the mid Atlantic coast will put eastern New York and western New England on its western side through Tuesday.  Snow will become steadier from SE to NW across the region after midnight and towards daybreak Tuesday with snowfall of varying intensity through Tuesday evening.  A gusty NNW wind from 20-30 mph at times will cause blowing and drifting of the very dry snow creating poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions into Tuesday night. General Storm accumulations in the Capital Region of 8"-14" are expected.

Cuomo won't join Obama at NY fracking hotbed sites

ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo will avoid a potentially dicey political conflict by not accompanying President Barack Obama to parts of upstate New York roiled over the state's current ban on hydraulic fracturing for natural gas.

Obama supports the technology as an economic boon that helps make the country more energy independent.

He's expected to find supporters and protesters from environmental groups opposed to it when he visits Syracuse and Binghamton late this week. Parts of central New York and the Southern Tier are on the Marcellus Shale formation, where energy companies want to drill.

Cuomo will meet Obama when he flies into Buffalo Thursday, but won't appear in Syracuse or Binghamton.

The governor has postponed for months a decision on whether to allow fracking. He says he's waiting for a study by Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav Shah.
