Travers weekend preparations
SARATOGA SPRINGS -- We're just a few days away from Saratoga Race Course's signature race. The 144th Travers Stakes is Saturday, and Wednesday the Post Positions were annoucned.
But security preparations are on the agenda to ensure the safety for the influx of people expected to flood through the gates this week,
"We'll have additional fire and EMS resources here, and will also have assets on the ground and the state department of homeland security will be here to help us as well," vice president of security Sidney Anthry tells us.
"We'll be making sure everything is orderly when they enter, making sure everything is orderly when they exit, watching carefully for no glass containers being brought in and we're hoping for a fun and of course safe day," Eric Wing, spokesman for NYRA adds.
Security officials say they are coordinating with city police as well to control traffic, which they say is their biggest issue.
"Traffic is always a problem, so we'll have additional personnel along Union Avenue, guiding people so everybody's safe as they are crossing the street, which is primarily our biggest problem. Traffic going in and out," Anthry tells us.
NYRA says they're expecting almost 40,000 race fans and say that here the fans tend to be well mannered which makes their job that much easier.
"It's a wonderfully behaved crowd, people mind their manors and treat their neighbors in a courteous way."
